Maredudd ap Gruffydd

Maredudd ap Gruffydd (* 1130/31, † 1155 ) was a Prince of Deheubarth. He was the eldest son of Gruffydd ap Rhys and his wife Gwenllian, daughter of Gruffydd ap Cynan. He was six years old when his father died in 1137. At the age of 16 he assisted his older half- brother Cadell in the fight against the Anglo-Normans in southern Ceredigion and in the defense of the recently conquered the castle of Carmarthen. In the same year they still conquered Llansteffan Castle. 1151 he drove a Welsh forces from neighboring Gwynedd behind the Dovey, and the same year he took over after the severe wounding of Cadell control of Deheubarth. He was, despite his youth as a respected and admired warrior ruler, but he died four years later. His successor was his younger brother Rhys ap Gruffydd.
