Marek i Wacek

Marek & Vacek (actually in the Polish spelling Marek i Wacek ) was a Polish piano duo, which was especially popular in the 1970s, consisting of the two musicians, Waclaw Kisielewski and Marek Tomaszewski.

Music style

The hallmark of the duo were arrangements of classical works with stylistic elements of pop music, sometimes with swinging character. Original compositions also played a major role. The duo can be assigned to the style of postmodernism.

History

After it was founded in the early 1960s, gave the duo in a broadcast on March 8, 1963 his television debut. Marek and Wacek played the leading roles in the Polish film musical tandem from the year 1966. 1981 they were recognized by the wearing of badges during a tour of the GDR because of their support of the Polish Solidarity trade union.

The duo existed from 1963 until the accidental death Waclaw Kisielewski in 1986 and was invited at this time to give concerts in Europe, the USA and Canada. Waclaw Kisielewski was killed as a passenger, in a car accident.

After this accident Marek Tomaszewski tried with Michel Prezman to repeat the success as i Marek Michel, but was forced to recognize the failure of this experiment after recording the disc America and retreated then back to Paris.

Marek Tomaszewski began in 2010 as a soloist in East Germany his comeback tour as a concert pianist.

Marek's first solo album was called Premiere, Rapsodia the second and the third Le Sacre du Printemps, a service following the work of Igor Stravinsky.
