Mareugheol

Mareugheol is a commune in the Auvergne region in the Puy -de- Dôme Arrondissement in Issoire in the canton of Saint- Germain- Lembron.

General

The municipality belongs with 7.54 square kilometers, the majority of the smaller municipalities of France. It is located on 525-762 meters above sea level 6.4 km northwest of Saint- Germain- Lembron and has 171 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011).

History

The place is mentioned in 1032 as " Maroiolus ". During the Hundred Years' War ( 14-15. Century) was attached to the village.

  • Fort de Mareugheol, remnants of a larger (65 m per edge ) square fortification of the village of basalt stones with round corner towers ( 14-15 century. ); inside narrow streets
  • Within this system, the church of Saint -Victor et Sainte- Couronne, Romanesque with later components (. 12th-16th century), with statues of the nursing Madonna ( 15th century ), the Saint Guerrier and of Saint Roche ( 17th century ); in the octagonal tower, a bronze bell from 1747
  • Château d' Eyrie (15th century)
