Margao ( Konkani / Marathi: मडगांव, Maḍgāṃv, also Madgaon, Margaon and Margão ) is the second largest city in the Indian state of Goa and administrative headquarters of South Goa district and of the Salcete taluks. The town has about 78,000 inhabitants.

Traffic

Margao has the main railway station in Goa and is located on the Konkan Railway from Mumbai to Kerala. From the station to the city a 10.5 km long line Skybus was planned, which was to serve as a test track for a similar system in Mumbai. After an accident with one dead on 25.9.2004 the project was laid after the construction of a 1.6 km long section on ice.

Tourism

Tourist Margao has little to offer, and serves only as a transit point for the beaches in the south. There are numerous buses to Panaji.

Margao has the Fatorda Stadium (capacity: 35,000 ) is the largest stadium in Goa and is home to many football clubs in India's highest football league:
