Margaret Drabble

Margaret Drabble, DBE ( born June 5, 1939 in Sheffield, Yorkshire ) is a British writer and literary critic.

She went to a Quaker boarding school in York and completed an English degree. Subsequently, she was lecturer at Newnham College, Cambridge and actress with the Royal Shakespeare Company, before she started her literary work.

In addition to a series of novels she wrote mainly short stories and some dramas. Special interest they had in the writer Arnold Bennett, of which they wrote a biography. One of her works are women-specific issues.

Drabble is married to Michael Holroyd and lives in London and Somerset. She is the sister of A. S. Byatt.
