Margaret Singana

Margaret Singana, born as Margaret M'cingana ( * 1938 in Queenstown, † 22 April 2000) was a South African singer, known as Lady Africa in Southern Africa.

Life and work

Singana Margaret was born in 1938 in Queenstown in today's Eastern Cape Province. She worked in the 1950s as a domestic worker in Johannesburg, where one of her employer discovered her singing talent. In 1972, she took on Good Feelings with her band and became the first black artist who made ​​it into the Dutch Radio 5 hit parade. Her song I Never Loved a Man the Way I Loved You was a hit.

She was also a musical singer. The first appearances they had in Sponono by Alan Paton and Sikalo of Gibson Kente. In 1974, Margaret Singana lead singer in the musical The Warrior of Bertha EGNOS and Gail Lakier.
