Margarita Belén

Margarita Belén is the capital of the department Primero de Mayo in the province of Chaco in northern Argentina. It is located 21 kilometers north of the provincial capital Resistencia. In the classification of municipalities in the province of Chaco it belongs to the third category.

History

The town was founded in 1890 by immigrants from France and from Trento (Italy). He is regarded in Argentina as the cradle of agricultural cooperatives.

In Margarita Belén shot dead on March 24, 1976 Argentine soldiers and police in a joint operation 22 political prisoners.
