Margencel

Margencel is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Margencel is located on 473 m above sea level. Level, 5 km southwest of the town of Thonon -les- Bains ( straight line ). The village is located in the Bas -Chablais a scenic location about 100 m above the south bank of Lake Geneva, on a moraine of glacial Rhone Glacier.

The area of ​​7.38 km ² municipal area includes a section on the south bank of Lake Geneva; the lake shore line is only just 0.5 km. The municipal area extends from the shallow lakeshore ( Golfe de Coudrée ) southward over a gently rising slope on both sides of the valley of the Ruisseau du Redon. History

The area around Margencel was inhabited very early. The oldest traces date back to the Neolithic period. Also from the Roman period various found objects are preserved. However, the place name is first mentioned only in the early 15th century.

Attractions

The village church was built in the 15th century and has since been modified several times. In Jouvernex late medieval houses from the 16th century are preserved. The Château de la Bédoyère dates from the 19th century.

Population

With 1883 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Margencel one of the smaller towns in the Haute-Savoie region. In recent decades, a continuous strong growth of population was recorded. Between the town centers emerged larger family house districts.

Economy and infrastructure
