Margery Sharp

Clara Margery Melita Sharp ( born January 25, 1905 District Salisbury ( Wiltshire ), † 14 March 1991) was an English writer. She is best known for its children's books to Miss Bianca, an adventurous mouse lady.

Life

She was born Clara Margery Melita Sharp in the district of Salisbury ( Wiltshire ). She spent part of her childhood in Malta. In 1938 she married the engineer Major Geoffrey Castle.

Her first novel, Rhododendron Pie, she published in 1930. In her long career she wrote 26 novels for adults, many short stories, plays and some 14 children's books.

Many of her works were found to be international bestsellers, almost all have been translated into German.

Some of their works were used as templates for movies. So Ernst Lubitsch filmed The girl Cluny Brown ( Cluny Brown, 1944) in 1946 under the title Cluny Brown on courting. The best known is probably the Walt Disney animated film The Rescuers - The Rescuers (1977 ), the on Bianca and her friends ( The Rescuers, 1959) was based. The two main characters were then in Bernard and the Beast (1990 ) re-used.
