Margherita Piazzola Beloch

Margherita Beloch Piazzolla ( born July 12, 1879 in Frascati as Margherita Beloch, † 1976 in Rome) was an Italian mathematician who dealt with algebraic geometry, algebraic topology and photogrammetry.

She was a daughter of Karl Julius Beloch and the American Bella Bailey. Margherita Beloch studied mathematics at the University La Sapienza with the Laurea degree in 1908 ( Sulle Trasformazioni nello spazio birazionali ), taught at a secondary school in Rome and was an assistant of Guido Castelnuovo at the university. From 1919, she was at the University of Pavia and in 1920 assistant Michele De Franchis at the University of Palermo, where she qualified as a professor in 1924. In 1927 she was awarded after a competition the chair of geometry at the University of Ferrara, where she remained until retirement in 1955.

They dealt in particular with aerial photogrammetry, X-ray photogrammetry and topographic applications of photogrammetry.
