Margrethe II of Denmark

Margrethe II of Denmark (* April 16, 1940 in Copenhagen as Margrethe Alexandrine Ingrid Þorhildur ) is January 15, 1972 as the Queen of Denmark (Danish: Danmarks Dronning ) the head of state of Denmark. She is a member of the House of Schleswig -Holstein -Sonderburg- Glücksburg, a branch line of the House of Oldenburg. Margrethe was until 1972 Danish ( Kron ) princess and until 1944 Icelandic princess.

Family

Margrethe II was the eldest daughter of Frederik IX. of Denmark (1899-1972) and his wife Ingrid of Sweden (1910-2000) was born. It is the last Danish princess who also received an Icelandic name with the name Þorhildur.

Margrethe II is the sister of Princess Benedikte of Sayn -Wittgenstein- Berleburg ( born April 29, 1944) and Anne -Marie of Greece ( born August 30, 1946). After her father had been proclaimed King in 1947, her uncle Knut of Denmark Crown Prince was initially before 1953, a revision of the Constitution Margrethe allowed the succession of her father. Since 1967 she is with the French Count Henri de Laborde de Monpezat ( Prince Henrik of Denmark) married. With him, she has two sons, Crown Prince Frederik ( born May 26, 1968) and Prince Joachim ( born June 7, 1969).

Personal

It comes from the house of Schleswig -Holstein -Sonderburg- Glücksburg and in addition to her role as Queen of Denmark also gained as a graphic artist and painter a certain notoriety. She has drawn different stamps and books illustrated, among others 1977 - under the pseudonym Ingahild Grathmer - the Danish edition of the Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien. Residences

The official residences of the Queen are Amalienborg Palace and Fredensborg Palace in Copenhagen on.
