Maria Amalia of Courland

Maria Anna Amalia of Courland ( born June 12, 1653 Jelgava, † June 16, 1711 in Weilmunster ) was a princess of Courland from the family Ketteler and by marriage Countess of Hesse- Kassel.

Life

Amalia was a daughter of the Duke Jacob of Courland (1610-1662) from his marriage to Luise Charlotte (1617-1676), the eldest daughter of the Elector George William of Brandenburg.

On May 21, 1673 married in Kassel Landgrave Charles of Hesse -Kassel ( 1654-1730 ). Previously, Amalia had been betrothed to Charles 's elder brother William VII, but he was already dead 19 -year-old during his Grand Tour.

With the cooperation of the Countess of Karlsaue originated in Kassel, in the marble bathroom is a medallion with the representation Amalia of important Roman sculptor Pierre Etienne Monnot ( 1657-1733 ).
