Maria DÄ…browska

Maria Dabrowska [ dɔmbrɔfska ], born Szumska, (* October 6, 1889 in Russów in Kalisz, † May 19, 1965 in Warsaw) was a Polish writer.

Maria Dabrowska came from the impoverished Polish gentry and was married to the political activist Marian Dabrowski. At the same time literary and politically interested, they stood up for people who were affected by the prevailing circumstances in a negative way.

She studied natural sciences, sociology and philosophy in Lausanne and Brussels and lived in Warsaw since 1917. At times, she worked at the Polish Ministry of Agriculture, but also occurred repeatedly with newspaper reports to the public. She was also artistic and painted landscapes and still life.

In 1927, she turned again and again in literature against human rights violations in Poland. During the occupation of Poland by German troops remained in Warsaw and supported the cultural life of the Polish underground.

In her novels, plays and newspaper articles she analyzed the psychological consequences of world events for ordinary people.
