Maria Gripe

Maria Gripe ( born July 25, 1923 in Vaxholm, † April 5, 2007 in Rönninge, community Salem) was a Swedish writer.

Maria Gripe studied philosophy and history of religion and is now next to Astrid Lindgren to the most important Scandinavian children 's book authors.

Life

Maria Gripe was born as Mary Walter in Vaxholm, but moved to Örebro age of six. After they had lived there for several years, she moved to Stockholm, where she received her high school and studied at the University of Stockholm.

In 1946 she married the artist Harald Gripe, who illustrated most covers of her books. The two have a daughter, Camilla Gripe, who works as a writer and translator.

Maria Gripe wrote 38 books that have been translated into 29 languages. Her last book was published in 1997. Many of her books have been made ​​into a movie.
