Maria Temryukovna

Maria Temrjukowna of Cherkessia ( Russian Мария Темрюковна, * ca 1544, † September 1, 1569 ) was a Circassian princess, and since her marriage to Ivan IV Tsarina of Russia.

Life

Maria Temrjukowna (born Kutschenej ) was born as the daughter of Circassian princes Temryuk. Mary was gewesesen known for its extraordinary beauty and Ivan IV was presented in Moscow after the death of his first wife, Anastasia Romanovna in 1561. The Tsar was entranced by Mary beauty so that he had, in spite of all objections immediately decided to marry the Circassian princess. The marriage took place at the Annunciation Cathedral on August 21, 1561.

The Tsarina was described as stubborn and vindictive and have consistently had a negative impact on Ivan IV. On March 21, 1563 was their common son Vasili to the world, who died in the same year on May 3. Maria died on September 1, 1569 at the age of 25 years.
