Maria von Peteani

Mary of Peteani, nee Sauer ( born February 2, 1888 in Prague, † July 28, 1960 in Linz) was an Austrian artist and writer.

Life

As a two year old she moved with her family in 1890 to Linz, where the post- Council daughter was made possible after primary school to visit a girl Lyceum.

She married in 1908 the eleven years her senior tenor Eugene of Peteani Empire Knights of Steinberg ( 1873-1913 ), a landowner in Gorizia. Guest performances by the artist took him only through half of Europe; after he began to suffer from severe voice problems and due to the collapse of Gorizia Lenassibank financial ruin was at hand, he walked with his wife in 1912, his Gorizia Villa in a boarding house in order. Unfortunately, the opera singer, however, died the following year 39 - year from a stroke. The widow returned to her mother to Linz, where she stayed until 1920 as a draftsman over water, title pages, fashion drawings and bookplate designed. The company Munk in Vienna was created by her postcards with women's fashion designs is out.

With the letter she began only in 1920, where she was primarily known for nearly 20 novels. She also wrote several radio plays, local products series as well as a large number of stories.

After their previous freelance work she was finally in the years 1926-1938 for the " Wiener Tageblatt ", the " faithful Eckart " and the " German General Zeitung".

Woman could Peteani after the annexation of Austria to the German Reich not provide proof of Aryan ancestry. In 1940, she received a letter from the Reich Chamber that her now each actuation is prohibited as a writer, is prohibited and would be punishable under the penal provisions of the Reich Chamber of Culture Law.

But after 1945 it managed to come relatively quickly back into the business. All her novels were published in new editions. The primary field was then no longer the novel, but literary critics and radio play.

Mary of Peteani is buried in Linz on St. Barbara's Cemetery.

A circumferential partial estate was 1964/65 the Archives of the City of Linz passed.
