Marialiese Flemming

Marilies Flemming ( born December 16, 1933 Wiener Neustadt) is an Austrian politician (ÖVP ) in retirement.

Life

Marilies Flemming graduated from a high school in Salzburg and studied law at the University of Vienna. In the years 1952 to 1959 she lived for language studies in Paris, she studied briefly at the University of Cambridge ( 1953-1954 ). From 1972 to 1991 she worked as a managing director and shareholder of a film production company.

From 1973 to 1987 she was Member of the Vienna parliament. The liberal ÖVP leader Erhard Busek motivated Flemming in 1987 to take over the Federal Ministry for Environment, Youth and Family. Flemming had always been committed to environmental concerns - they had been involved in the occupation of Hainburg wetlands and had to publicly profiled as an opponent of nuclear power plant Zwentendorf. During her tenure as Secretary of the Chemicals Act, the Clean Air Act and the Smogalarmgesetz were decided.

After the national election in 1990, she moved again in the government. In 1991, she resigned due to massive opposition criticism - at their swearing she had not reported to the incompatibility committee that she was involved in the film production company of her husband. The company had received several orders from the ORF during Flemming's term of office. Incompatibility messages were issued in the 80 years of the least of all members of the government - Flemming confessed yet one to have broken a law and stepped back. Her successor was Ruth field Grill Zankel.

From 1987 to 1993 she was President of the European Women's Union from 1996 to 2004 Member of the European Parliament. Since 2004 she is Vice -President of the European Senior Citizens' Union.
