Marie-Gabriel-Augustin Savard

Marie Gabriel Augustin Savard (* 1814, † 1881) was a French music teacher.

Savard studied at the Paris Conservatory and taught there from 1841 solfège, harmony, and bass. From 1866 he was professor of double bass. His most famous student was Jules Massenet. His son Augustin Savard became known as a composer.

Savard published a textbook of harmony: Cours complet d'harmonie pratique et théoretique (Paris 1863), which he added to the two-volume Etudes d'harmonie pratique. 1865 appeared the many newly published Principes de la musique et méthode de transposition.
