Marie Thérèse, Madame Royale (1667–1672)

Marie -Thérèse of France ( * January 2, 1667 in Saint- Germain -en- Laye, † March 1, 1672 ibid ) was the fourth child and third daughter of Louis XIV of France and his wife Maria Theresa of Spain. She was Princess of France and Navarre. As the oldest king's daughter, she was raised in the court with the traditional honorific Madame Royale.

Life

Marie -Thérèse of France was born on January 2, 1667 in Saint- Germain -en- Laye. Her parents were baptized the girl in the Louvre in 1668. According to the will of her mother, Marie -Thérèse should have been queen of their home country Spain.

As a " daughter of France" Marie -Thérèse was called Her Royal Highness of France. She was also known as " Madame La Petite ," to distinguish them from their aunts, the wives of her uncle Philip I, Duke of Orléans, the "first Madame " ( Henrietta Anne Stuart, † 1670 ) and "second Madame " ( Liselotte of the Palatinate, † 1722) were known. The only five- year-old princess died on March 1, 1672 in Saint- Germain -en- Laye.
