Marienstern Abbey

The monastery Marie Star ( formerly known as Guildenstern ) was a Cistercian monastery in the city Miihlberg / Elbe in present-day state of Brandenburg. Since 2000, the Congregation of the Fathers try Claretian on behalf of the Bishop of Magdeburg, Gerhard Feige, revive the monastery dissolved by the Reformation in the 16th century

History

The monastery was founded in 1228 by a foundation of the brothers Otto and Bodo von Ileburg. The consent for the conversion of the parish church of Miihlberg in a monastery church was confirmed by Margrave Heinrich the Illustrious of Meissen, of which the monastery has also received donations. 1539 the monastery was secularized during the Reformation.

The single monastery church is a Gothic brick building with Romanesque elements. In 1565 it was re- prepared after several fires as a parish church of Old mill mountain. The abbey was built around 1500, was built in 1717 converted into a mansion. This from the 13th/14th. Century refectory was remodeled in 1820 for agricultural purposes. The restoration of the monastery church ( from 1992) and the refectory was, inter alia, funded by the German Foundation for Monument protection. During a severe storm on 24 May 2010, the tower of the church was destroyed.
