Marijan Oblak

Marijan Oblak ( born December 8, 1919 in Veli Rat at Dugi Otok, Yugoslavia, now Croatia, † February 15, 2008 in Zadar, Croatia) was from 1969 to 1996 Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Zadar.

Life

Marijan Oblak was consecrated on August 5, 1945 in Šibenik for Roman Catholic priests. From 1945 to 1949 Oblak was prefect of the episcopal seminary in Šibenik. Moreover 1945-1949 teacher of religion at the state secondary school in Šibenik. From 1949 to 1951 he was prefect of the Archbishop's Seminary " Zmajević " in Zadar, ibid religion teacher at Archbishop High School. 1955 Oblak was vice-rector in the Archbishop's Seminary in Zadar, also taught Oblak as a professor in the Department of French Language, Croatian Language and Literature at the Archbishop's School in Zadar.

In 1958 he became Pope Pius XII. appointed Titular Bishop of Flavia and appointed Auxiliary Bishop in Zadar. The episcopal ordination on July 6, 1958 gave him the Archbishop of Zadar, Mate Garkovic, as well as the co-consecrators Ciril Banic, Bishop of Šibenik, and Stjepan Bauerlein, Bishop of Sirmio.

As auxiliary bishop Marijan Oblak served as pastoral vicar general and rector of the Archbishop's Seminary. From 1968 to 1969 Oblak was vicar in the Archdiocese of Zadar. 1996 the age-related resignation of Marijan Oblak by Pope John Paul II was granted; his successor as archbishop was Most Reverend Ivan Prendja.
