Marilyn Bergman

Marilyn Bergman ( born November 10, 1929 in New York City; actually Marilyn Keith ) is an American songwriter and composer.

Life

Bergman counts along with her husband Alan Bergman of the most respected songwriters in the USA. Write together, especially film music. Marilyn Keith first attended the High School of Music and Art in New York and studied at the New York University English and psychology, as In 1958, Alan Bergman married. Since the early 1960s, they write together hits for movies. Her breakthrough experienced the Bergmans with the text for the title song of the film In the Heat of the Night with Sidney Poitier, composed by Quincy Jones in 1967.

A long-standing collaboration combines the Bergmans with the French composer Michel Legrand. The highlight of this work was the complete lyrics for the film Yentl by and starring Barbra Streisand. For Papa, can you hear me from Yentl she received an Oscar in 1983. But in 1969 won Legrand and the Bergmans an Oscar for the song The Windmills of your Mind to the film The Thomas Crown Affair with Steve McQueen. A third Oscar they won in 1974 for the title song The Way We Were, sung by Barbra Streisand. This time was Marvin Hamlisch, the composer, with whom she still wrote other hits later. The film is called in German Way We Were. The Bergmans also responsible for drawing the text to You Do not Bring Me Flowers, which was 1978/79 a worldwide hit for Neil Diamond and Barbra Streisand.
