Marinduque

Marinduque is an island province in the Philippines in the MIMAROPA region.

The province has 229 636 inhabitants, distributed in 49 956 households. Marinduque has an area of ​​952.6 km ², in addition to the eponymous main island it also includes several small islands and reaches a height of 1157 m at the active volcano Malindig. It is one of the Philippines within the archipelago Luzon. On the island the Marinduque Wildlife Sanctuary was established to protect biodiversity.

It is located south of Luzon, east of Mindoro, and north of the Romblonen. In the northwest, it borders the bay of Tayabas, on the northeast by the Mompog passage and the Bondoc Peninsula, on the south by the Tablas Strait and on the east by Sibuyan Sea.

Famous people

Ricardo Jamin Cardinal Vida, Archbishop Emeritus of Cebu was born on February 6, 1931 in the north- west of the island, in Mogpog.
