Marinus Jan Granpré Molière

Marinus January Granpré Molière ( born October 13, 1883 in Oudenbosch, † February 14, 1972 in Wassenaar ) was a Dutch architect, urban planner and influential high school teachers. He is seen as the founding father of the Delft School ( Delftse School), which is counted to the architectural movement of traditionalism.

Life

Molière studied architecture at the Technical University of Delft. From 1924-1953 he was a high school teacher at this school. During his thirty years of teaching architectural education at TU Delft was largely influenced by the traditionalism.

Molière was one of the first to recognize that urban and regional planning was sustained important and should be treated as a separate discipline.

Based on the 1889 published book " The urban development according to his artistic principles " of Camillo Sitte was Molière initiator numerous urban projects, such as the Wieringermeer (from 1927) and the North-East Polder ( 1937 ).
