Mario von Appen

Mario von Appen ( born July 31, 1965 in Hamburg ) is a former German canoeist. In 1992 he became Olympic champion in the four-man kayak.

Mario von Appen began his career at SV Hamburg police, for which he won multiple medals at the German Championships in the 1980s. 1988 he moved to Essen KG, 1989, he won his first World Cup medal. Only in 1992 won Mario von Appen first time at the German Championships. After the victory at the Olympic Games in 1992 over 1000 m with Oliver Cone, Thomas Reineck and André Wohllebe Mario von Appen was for several years the main cast of the German four-man kayaks. In 1993, he won three World Cup medals, including two gold. In 1994 he won the German championship in the one over 500 meters.
