Minnesota Golden Gophers (NCAA Hockey, 1993 )

The Mariucci Arena is an ice hockey stadium in Minneapolis. It is a venue for the men 's ice hockey team at the University of Minnesota, the Golden Gophers and can accommodate about 10,000 spectators.

From 1950 to 1993, the Golden Gophers played in ice hockey stadium in the Williams Arena on the campus of the University. 1985 this was renamed Mariucci Arena. Namesake here was John Mariucci, a former player and coach of the Gophers. With the construction of a new hockey arena on the opposite side of the road this was named. The playing field has the international size and is approximately 30 meters wide and 61 meters long. On 13 March 1993, the first game in the arena took place between the Golden Gophers and North Dakota before 7,449 spectators. The women's team the Gophers played there from 1997 to 2002 before moving into the smaller Ridder Arena. Both ice hockey stadiums are connected by a tunnel. 2001 Mariucci Arena has been extended to 18 lodges. The capacity rose from 9,700 to 10,000 seats.

2007 Mariucci Arena was appointed as the sole hockey stadium of the Sports Illustrated on Campus one of the ten best sports facilities in the U.S. college sports.

Use

The Mariucci Arena serves primarily the men's ice hockey team, the Golden Gophers as a venue. In addition, regular regional and national hockey events. At international events include the games of the ice hockey world championship of women in 2001, the Short Track World Cup in 2006 and the synchronous World Figure Skating Championships 2000.
