Mariusz Kwiecień

Mariusz Kwiecień (* November 4, 1972 in Kraków ) is a Polish opera singer (baritone ).

Life and career

After finishing her studies at the Warsaw Academy of Music, he debuted in his home town of Krakow as Aeneas in Dido and Aeneas by Henry Purcell. In 1996, he first appeared in the Teatr Wielki in Warsaw. In the same year, when he was just 24 years old, he was awarded the first contract from the Metropolitan Opera in New York for Domenico Cimarosa's Il matrimonio segreto comic opera. A few months later he was at the premiere of the opera with The King Candaules by Alexander von Zemlinsky at the Hamburg State Opera.

Within the next few years has led to invitations to other leading opera houses: 1997 to the Vienna State Opera, La Scala in Milan in 1998, in the following year for the Glyndebourne Festival. He first made ​​his name in the Da Ponte operas of Mozart: Don Giovanni as, Guglielmo and Count Almaviva.

His debut in the title role in Eugene Onegin by Tchaikovsky at the Moscow Bolshoi Theatre in 2006 celebrating Russian music criticism. In this role, he also appeared in other leading opera houses, it is considered next to the Don Giovanni as ideal for its rather high baritone and as his trademark.

He also holds U.S. citizenship.
