Marjorie Scardino

Marjorie Morris Scardino (* 1947 in Flagstaff, Arizona) is an American manager.

Marjorie Scardino grew up in Texarkana. In 1969, she earned a BA in French and psychology at Baylor University. A law degree at George Washington University broke it off and then worked as a journalist.

She married Albert Scardino, a journalist and earned a law degree in 1975 from the University of San Francisco. Later she worked as a lawyer in Savannah. Together with her husband she bought the weekly Georgia Gazette. This one won the 1984 Pulitzer Prize.

1985 Scardino was Director of the British weekly The Economist for North America. You could increase the run and income. In 1992 she became CEO of the Economist Group. In 1997 she became CEO of the publishing group Pearson, which holds a 50 % interest in The Economist. Scardino was the first woman to lead a top 100 company on the London Stock Exchange.

On 21 May 2004 Scardino received an honorary doctorate from the Saint Mary's University Halifax awarded. She and her husband live in London and have three children.
