Mark Dornford-May

Mark Dornford -May (* May 29th 1955 in the UK) is a British film director.

Since the early 1980s, Dornford-May has been a successful theater and opera director. In Bristol, he founded the Playwright 's Company. He directed productions at the Crucible in Sheffield, Playhouse in Oxford, the Gate Theatre in Notting Hill and the Royal Shakespeare Company. He taught in London at the Central School of Speech and Drama and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art Together with Charles Hazlewood, he founded the Broomhill Opera, which he headed for 10 years as artistic director. Guest performances have taken him to France, Belgium, Portugal, Australia, South Africa, Ireland, Canada and the United States.

Since 2000 lives Dornford-May South Africa. Where he heads the theater company he founded Dimpho Di Kopane (United talents ).

Awards

  • For his debut feature film U -Carmen In 2005 he was honored at the 55th International Film Festival in Berlin with a Golden Bear.
  • For his musical staging of The Mysteries Dornford-May in the same year for a Drama Desk Award from the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers ( ASCAP ) nominated.
