Mark Huizinga

Mark Huizinga ( born September 10, 1973 in Vlaardingen ) is a Dutch judoka.

At the 2000 Olympics in Sydney he became Olympic champion in the weight class up to 90 kg. Four years earlier, at the Games in Atlanta in 1996, he won a bronze medal already in the weight category to 86 kg. At the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games 2004 in Athens Huizinga was standard-bearer of the Dutch Olympic Team, the Olympic Judo tournament, he again won a bronze medal. In his fourth at the Olympics in Beijing in 2008, he finished 15th place. In 2005 he won his only world championship medal with bronze. Huizinga won twelve medals at the European Championships, including five gold medals ( 1996, 1997, 1998, 2001 and 2008). Eight times won Huizinga at Military World Championships, twelve times he was the Dutch national champion. 1998 and 2000, Huizinga was elected to the European judoka of the year.

After studying applied computer science at the College of Business (HES ) in Amsterdam Huizinga joined the Dutch Royal Army. There he held the rank of lieutenant.
