Mark Maley

Mark Maley ( born January 26, 1981 in Newcastle upon Tyne ) is a former English footballer. The defender of the AFC Sunderland had to quit at the age of 21, after a teammate he had accidentally shot in the eye with an air gun his career.

Career

Maley went through the youth department of the Sunderland AFC in January 1998 and received his first professional contract. His competitive debut in the first team of the club was the full-back in the first round game of the League Cup on 18 August 1998 against York City. This remains his only season at the same time commitment to the professional team, the rest of the 1998/99 season spent in the reserve team, with whom he won the Central League. In the following season, it was enough for Maley only to use one in the League Cup, behind the more experienced players Chris Makin, Michael Gray and Darren Holloway had potential for use scarce. According to a third League Cup insert for Sunderland earlier in the season 2000/ 01 was followed for Maley in autumn 2000 Leihphasen at FC Blackpool ( Third Division ) and Northampton Town ( Second Division ), where he came in each case to two inserts. Furthermore, without the use of chance for Sunderland in the Premier League, Maley was awarded in September 2001 in the Third Division at York City. The two clubs had agreed to cooperate in the summer, which previously led Maleys teammate Michael Proctor to York. The loan was extended in December to the end of the season, ended because of an injury Maleys after 13 league operations but in March 2002, ahead of schedule.

The former captain of the English national football student career came in April 2002 to an abrupt end when he shot his teammate John Oster at the " silliness " in his apartment by mistake with an air gun in the eye. Maley had to be performed emergency surgery and was unable to continue his career. 2007 Maley and Easter settled out of court for a compensation payment.
