Mark Zuckerberg

Mark Elliot Zuckerberg ( born May 14, 1984 in White Plains, New York) is an American entrepreneur. He is the founder and CEO of the company Facebook Inc. and holds this for a share of 28 percent.

Life

Zuckerberg grew up in Dobbs Ferry ( New York) on his father Edward is a dentist, his mother Karen psychotherapist. He has three sisters, Randi, Donna and Arielle. He came from a Jewish family, describes himself as an atheist, however. At Harvard University, Zuckerberg studied computer science and psychology, then he became a member of Alpha Epsilon Pi, a Jewish fraternity. In 2004 he founded with three Harvard classmates Facebook and gave in 2006 his studies without financial statements.

On May 19, 2012, he married his girlfriend Priscilla Chan of Chinese origin, with whom he had conducted a relationship since 2003 and lives in a mansion in Palo Alto, California.

Zuckerberg's fortune was estimated by Forbes magazine at about 17.5 billion U.S. dollars in September 2011. In 2009, he was the youngest self-made billionaire living in the world. Since September 2010, however, his partner Dustin Moskovitz is considered to be a billionaire and so as the record holder, as he is eight days younger. In December 2010, Zuckerberg said his participation to at The Giving Pledge, thus giving a pledge to donate much of his wealth to charity.

In 2004, Mark Zuckerberg founded as a student along with Dustin Moskovitz, Chris Hughes and Eduardo Saverin, the Facebook social network. Before that, he tried his hand at some other Internet projects. Various sources estimated the total value of the company at about 50 billion U.S. dollars.

Views

The beginning of 2010 called Zuckerberg in an interview with Mike Arrington of TechCrunch as a justification for lax data protection to the fact that users more and more data on the Internet by itself would disclose voluntarily and Facebook is merely adapting to the social realities. In December 2012, Mark Zuckerberg donated 18 million Facebook shares worth about 500 million U.S. dollars to the Silicon Valley Community Foundation. The money will support new projects in the areas of education and health.

  • On 15 December 2010 the New York Time Magazine named Zuckerberg "Person of the Year". This title is awarded by the New Yorker magazine since 1927.
