Märkisch-Oderland

The county of Mark- land or is a county in the east of Brandenburg. Adjacent are the Barnim district, in the east, the Republic of Poland, in the south the district-free city of Frankfurt (Oder) and the Oder-Spree district and in the west the Land in the north. The nature park märkische Switzerland is located in the county. The demarcation was carried out according to the principle of the formation of sectoral circles.

Geography

The district, which lies in the eastern Brandenburg east of the German capital, including the landscapes of the Upper Barnim, the German part of the country Lebus and the Oder to the German - Polish border river Oder.

History

The county was established in 1993 as part of the Brandenburg district reform by merging the counties Bad Freiwalde, Seelow, Strausberg and partly from the circle Fiirstenwalde.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms was approved on July 2, 1996.
