Märkische Schweiz Nature Park

The nature park märkische Switzerland, with an area of 205 km ² in the state of Brandenburg, the smallest major reserve. The märkische Switzerland was established on 1 December 1990 with the National Park program of the GDR as a large protected area, making it the oldest nature park in Brandenburg. Support of the Natural Park is the state of Brandenburg. As a heraldic animal acts the congregation Clubtail. Main place of the natural park is Buckow.

Location and Transport

The nature park is located about 60 km east of Berlin in the district or Mark- land in the east of the federal state of Brandenburg.

By train the Natural Park of the regional railway line Berlin- Lichtenberg - Kuestrin ( Eastern Railway ) over the Muencheberg train station. From here in the summer months as a museum railway at weekends circulating Buckower small railway branches off to Buckow.

The federal highways 1 and 5 affect the nature park in its southern part.

Nature

Landscape

The scenery in the Mark Brandenburg Switzerland is characterized by the Ice Age. The heights are terminal moraines. In the post-glacial meltwater channels themselves, lakes, bogs and kettle holes have formed. In the center of the nature park is the Schermützelsee. The main rivers of the nature park is the Stobber. The creek originates on the North Sea and Baltic Sea watershed. Its apex region with a Pseudobifurkation is 48 m above sea level. NN in the fen area Rotes Luch. The 25 -kilometer-long river flows from the Red Luch by Buckow to the Oder. He joins at Altfriedland with the Quappendorfer channel to Friedlander stream whose water over the Old Or, the Hohensaaten- Friedrichsthaler waterway and the Oder is supplied in the Szczecin Lagoon, the Baltic Sea.

Reserves

The Grand Reserve (GSG ) Natural Park märkische Switzerland was recognized legally with the Regulation on the establishment of nature reserves and protected landscape of central importance as a nature park märkische Switzerland on October 1, 1990 and has an area of 205 km ².

The entire park (100 %) is designated as a conservation area ( LSG ). There is also in the nature park six nature reserves ( NSG) with a total area of 19 square kilometers (9 %), including the central 884 -hectare nature reserve Stobbertal that accompanies the flow to approximately 13 kilometers in length. The NSG is also shown under other terms of small freshwater mussel as particularly sensitive Habitats kind referred to in Annex II, as a conservation area. 87.1 % of the natural park area are also designated as European bird sanctuary (SPA), including the European bird sanctuary Altfriedländer pond and lake area around the Kietzer lake in the northeast corner of the park. In addition, there are another 14 Fauna-Flora- Habitats ( FFH) in the nature park.

Tourism

The R1 cycle route leads through the nature park. Today, visitors can walk the full 150 km network of hiking trails through the " märkische Switzerland ". A cultural and historical attraction is the former Cistercian monastery Friedland monastery with its church and the Klostersee. The church and the remains of buildings are next to Chorin architecture historically significant medieval monastery buildings in Barnim / Oder region. Bat Museum Julianenhof

In the bat Museum Julianenhof a permanent exhibition can be seen on bats. It will be held tours and lectures. Visitors can learn how to effectively protect the animals and their habitat.
