Markus Schirmer

Markus Schirmer ( born June 10, 1963 in Graz) is an Austrian pianist.

Life

Markus Schirmer attended as a student at the Academic Gymnasium Graz, and completed his matriculation examination in 1981. Subsequently, he studied piano, inter alia, with Rudolf Kehrer, Karl -Heinz Kammerling, Paul Badura- Skoda and Doris Wolf.

Schirmer works with leading orchestras and conductors, such as Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra, Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, Vienna Symphony Orchestra, Mariinsky Orchestra, Sinfonia Varsovia, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna, Munich, Leipzig, Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra under Valery Gergiev, Sir Neville Marriner, Lord Yehudi Menuhin, Jukka -Pekka Saraste, Michael Gielen, Philippe Entremont, Sir Charles Mackerras, Pinchas Steinberg, John Axelrod, Fabio Luisi, Roy Goodman and Philippe Jordan.

He delighted especially for Schubert, but also rarities such as Britten's ironic Piano Concerto, the transcendent works of Szymanowski or apostle " Kubiniana ". Chamber music takes in his work a large role. So he played with Julian Rachlin, Renaud Capuçon, Clemens Hagen, Christian Altenburger, Danjulo Ishizaka, Patrick Demenga, the Artis Quartet, the Auryn Quartet, the quartet Chilingirian, uva the Gaede Trio

Markus Schirmer wrote numerous songs over the years, including for the Vienna-based Portuguese- Australian singer Sandra Pires. In addition, he is devoted to artistic projects, such as " Scurdia ", a, initiated in 1998 by Schirmer crossover partnership with the Kurdish Lautisten Risgar Koshnaw and other international artists.

Schirmer is a professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, where he leads a concert class specializing in piano since 2000 and has also worked as a judge at several international piano competitions. He is also committed to "Live Music Now", a project which at that time was launched to promote musical giftedness of Yehudi Menuhin.

For his unusual artistic versatility Markus Schirmer received in the international Musikmesse EUROMUSIC the " Music Manual Award". One of the most prestigious awards for an Austrian artist he was granted in the form of " Karl Böhm Interpretation Prize ". For his first CD with Schubert sonatas he was awarded the "Prize of the German Record Critics ." Other awards of his recordings are about the "Supersonic Award " Luxembourg ( pizzicato ) or the OE1 - Pasticciopreis.

Projects

  • Angels in the head

Together with the Graz actor Wolfram Berger designed Schirmer the fine arts program "Angel in the head", a collage of Rhymes, Beat, love song, folk songs and nursery rhymes.

  • Scurdia

" Scurdia " is an improvisation project, which brings together outstanding musicians from all over the world on one stage and is capable of releasing new artistic and creative energies to bridge the gap between various cultures. Included are, among others, the internationally renowned guitarist and native Venezuelans Arnoldo Moreno, who as a percussionist for Opus, EAV, STS -been active Ismael Barrios, the German flutist and keyboardist Franz Reinhard pit Kreimer of the Ausseer hardware Brad learning.
