Markus Stockhausen

Markus Stockhausen ( born 2 May 1957 in Cologne ) is a German trumpeter and composer.

Life and work

The son of the musician Karlheinz Stockhausen and his first wife Doris (nee Andreae ) visited the Cologne Music School and studied from 1974 to 1982 at the Cologne University of Music in classical trumpet Robert Platt and jazz trumpet Manfred Schoof.

Since 1975 he has played in ensembles with his father, who wrote increasingly also works for him (including the solo parts in " SIRIUS ", Exam, Michael's trip around the world, fight with the dragon, vision, Saturday from light, invasion and Pietà ). He also worked with several jazz groups, with Key (1974-1979), Rainer Brüninghaus Group (1980-1984) and Cairo (1985-1991 ).

In 1989 he founded with his half-brother Simon Stockhausen and drummer Jo Thönes the trio Aparis. In 2005 he released his last album, initially with brother Simon ( nonduality ). 2008 Stockhausen founded with Tara Bouman ( clarinet), Dinesh Mishra ( bansuri flute), Rabih Lahoud (vocals), Florian Weber ( piano) and Dimitrios Dorian Kokiousis (drums), the world music group Eternal Voyage.

Since 2000 he has held in St. Maternus in Cologne a monthly concert series with intuitive music. He also gave summer courses for trumpet and taught from 1996 to 2001 at the Cologne College of Music.

In 2007 he wrote for the 31 German Evangelical Church in Cologne the work evening glow. Evening glow is a piece for six brass choirs and an improvised solo trumpet. The concert marked the end of the opening night dinner of the encounter. The performance experienced on the Rhine more than 100,000 people, it was broadcast live on WDR.

In collaboration with the director Amos Gitai created the film scores to Berlin- Jerusalem and Golem, the petrified garden. Together with his brother Simon, he composed on behalf of the Cologne Philharmonic for its five years of existence in 1991, the Cologne Music Fantasy, which was performed with a laser light show and fireworks. For the tenth anniversary of the Cologne Philharmonie, the piece Jubilee in 1996 listed. In addition, he co-wrote with his brother theater music to Metamorfosi di una Melodia, The Clown (1996 ) and a musical recitation of the seven psalms. Together with Hanna Schygulla, Simon Stockhausen and Manos Tsangaris he developed the KRONOS KAIROS project for the Staatstheater Mainz.

Created in collaboration with sculptor Norbert Müller- Everling Purple (1986-1989), a piece for dance, music and effects and geometric light living creation and in collaboration with the sculptor Helmut Lutz in Neuf -Brisach Radbühne, the moment and sound star. 1995 was listed on a sound boat on the Danube, the Danube piece drops in 1996 and 1997 the work at the moment. Marks Of His trumpet playing is a brighter, clearer - borrowed from classical music - sound. He can improvise on the piccolo trumpet and also sometimes plays on a self-constructed quarter-tone flugelhorn. He received the 2005 WDR Jazz Prize.
