Marta Bohn-Meyer

Marta Bohn -Meyer ( born August 18, 1957; † September 18, 2005 in Yukon, Oklahoma) was an American engineer and test pilot.

Life

Marta Bohn -Meyer was employed as a development engineer and pilot at the Neil A. Armstrong Flight Research Center and involved in a variety of research projects at NASA. As project manager and chief engineer, she was responsible for the wing design of the General Dynamics F- 16XL aircraft. She was also the first female pilot, carried out the test flights with the Mach- 3- fast and very high-flying reconnaissance aircraft, Lockheed SR -71 Blackbird.

Bohn -Meyer was a member of the United States Unlimited Aerobatic Team and until her death team manager. She died during a training flight to the U.S. Aerobatic Championships 2005 The flown from her Giles 300 aerobatic aircraft crashed in Oklahoma near the Clarence E. Page Municipal Airport ( ICAO code: Krce ). Starting. The cause of the crash a technical failure of the hood latch was called by the National Transportation Safety Board, the hood came off in the climb, the pilot lost consciousness and thus no longer able to control the machine was. She had recorded at this time about 6,700 flight hours in their flight log.

She was married to Robert R. Meyer, Jr., a project manager and flight test engineer at NASA Dryden Flight Research Center in Edwards, California.
