Márta Mészáros

Márta Mészáros ( born September 19, 1931 in Kispest ) is a Hungarian film director.

Life

Márta Mészáros was born as the daughter of a sculptor and a German teacher. Her father was a dedicated member of the Party of the Communist Party of Hungary, which meant that he emigrated with his family in 1936 in the Soviet Union. First they went to Moscow, and then to move on to Kyrgyzstan, where her father should build an art school for the Soviet- Asian space. However, these plans he could not put into action, as he was imprisoned in 1938 during the Great Purge. Since then, the trace of him and Márta Mészáros ' mother lost died shortly afterwards.

Márta Mészáros came only after the Second World War back to their home country. Pending their release, they were supervised by a Hungarian foster mother, which declined as a communist functionary in 1947 to Hungary Márta Mészáros and took. For studies she returned to Moscow. In 1956 she finished her studies at the Moscow Film Academy. Back in Hungary, she turned first mainly documentaries. In 1968 she directed her first feature film. It was the first feature film in Hungary, which was shot by a woman. She became internationally known in 1975 when she unexpectedly at the Berlinale in 1975 won the Golden Bear for her film Örökbefogadás ( adoption).

Márta Mészáros processed their own destiny and that of their family in a series of autobiographical diary films. She was temporarily (from 1960) married to the director Miklós Jancsó, with whom she has two sons who have contributed in part to their films as cameramen. Mészaros has long been allied with the Polish actor Jan Nowicki, who appeared in numerous movies Márta Mészáros of roles since the mid- 70s.
