Martha Veléz

Martha Carmen Josephine Rosario Hernández de Velez ( born August 25, 1945 in New York City ) is an American singer and actress of Puerto Rican descent. She has also performed under the name Martha Velez or Martha Velez- Johnson.

Life

Velez began singing at the age of five years. When she was twelve years old she got a scholarship to study opera. Three years later she moved to the High School of Performing Arts in New York City. Your voice is mezzo- soprano. Furthermore, she made her Masters in Clinical Psychology at Antioch University and his PhD at Pacifica Graduate Institute near Santa Barbara (California ) in cultural mythology and depth psychology.

Her musical career started Veléz as a singer in the folk group The Gaslight Singers. In 1969 she released her first solo album Fiends and Angels at Sire Records, which was created in collaboration with Eric Clapton and Al Anderson. Velez is married with trumpeter Keith Johnson. Their son, Taj Johnson is a regular in the series Parker Lewis - to see not Lose the school as Frank Lemmer. Her brother is the drummer Gerardo Velez, who has worked with stars such as Jimi Hendrix and Van Morrison.
