Marthinus van Schalkwyk

Marthinus Christoffel Johannes van Schalkwyk ( born November 10, 1959 in Pietersburg ) is a South African politician, lawyer and political scientist.

He was a member of the National Party (NP) and one of the Chairmen of Afrikaans student association. At the time of apartheid, he was a member of Military Intelligence (Military Intelligence) of South Africa.

He taught at the Universities of Stellenbosch and Johannesburg. In 1990 he was Member of Parliament, and soon after the party's spokesperson. Seven years later, in September 1997, he was elected Chairman of the NP. In 1997, the NP was refounded as New National Party ( NNP). After the NNP short time was part of the Democratic Alliance, van Schalkwyk was until resolution of the NNP in 2005 chairman of the party. From 2002 to 2004 he was with the help of ANC Premier of the Western Cape. Since 2004, van Schalkwyk 's Minister for Development Affairs and Tourism. The New National Party was dissolved in 2005, van Schalkwyk joined with most other NNP Members of the African National Congress, the van Schalkwyk heard since then.
