Martin Hansson (skier)

Martin Hansson ( born March 12, 1975 in Hedemora ) is a former Swedish alpine skier. The slalom specialist reached the podium and another eleven top- 10 finishes and tenth place at the 2006 Winter Olympics and two twelfth places in the World Championships in the World Cup.

Career

Hansson in 1993 and 1994 at the Junior World Championships in part. He achieved its best result in fifth in the slalom in 1994. According to a number of launches at FIS races as well as in Europe and Nor- Am Cup he gave on January 22, 1995 in Wengen slalom of his World Cup debut. A year later he was able to qualify for a second run and win his first World Cup points Rank 20 in Sestriere for the first time. Already in the following winter the connection succeeded him to the top. At first, he drove into Breckenridge and Madonna di Campiglio twice into the top ten, before the third place in Chamonix scored the first and only World Cup podium of his career on 20 January 1997.

In the next two years Hansson drove a total of five times into the top ten, but from 2000 he could - also due to many failures - less and less qualified for a second passage, so that he did in the seasons 2000/2001 and 2001/2002 had no World Cup points. Many failures suffered Hansson also for major events. Both at the World Championships in 1996, 1997 and 1999 as well as at the Olympic Winter Games 1998, he remained without result. At the 2001 World Championships and the 2002 Olympics, he did not participate.

As of 2003, Hansson was able to score sporadically in the World Cup again, even if he still rarely qualified in the next two years for a second pass. Positive exceptions in this period were the twelfth place finish at the 2003 World Championships in St. Moritz and the eleventh rank in the World Cup slalom in St. Anton in February 2004. During the season 2005/2006 Hansson was again constant, reaching eighth in Schladming and Ninth in Kranjska Gora again two top-10 results in the World Cup for the first time in seven years. Also at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, he managed tenth the leap into the top 10. Similar results were achieved Hansson even in winter 2006/2007. He arrived as the best World Cup result in tenth place in Schladming and was at the 2007 World Championships in Åre twelfth.

In his last season 2007/2008 was a 20th place in Garmisch -Partenkirchen Hansson's best World Cup result. After the winter, he finished after 13 years in the World Cup of his career. During this time he participated in 106 World Cup slaloms ( and two giant slalom and a Super G ) in part and drove twelve times into the top ten.

Together with his sister Erika Hansson, who was herself a ski racer until 2001, he transferred to his home town halls, the winter sports business Dalskidan.
