Marty Balin

Marty Balin ( born January 30, 1942 in Cincinnati, Ohio as Martyn Jerel Buchwald ) is an American rock musician ( vocals, guitar, harmonica). He was the founder of the rock band Jefferson Airplane.

Balin, who studied in San Francisco wanted to be a painter, originally. However, his participation in a production of the musical West Side Story awakened his love of music. In 1962 he took on the singles Nobody But You and I Specialize In Love. He has played with various bands, including the Town Criers and the Gateway Singers.

In 1965 he met Paul Kantner, with whom he founded Jefferson Airplane. First, they played folk rock, but soon became a driving force in the emerging psychedelic rock.

Due to internal friction Balin left the group in 1971. His band Bodacious DF was only briefly and produced one album. In 1975 he came back to his original band, which had been renamed the Jefferson Starship. His song Miracles was a hit.

1978 Balin began a solo career. He had some hits like Hearts and Atlanta Lady. With Paul Kantner and Jack Casady, his old colleagues from Jefferson Airplane, he set in 1985, KBC band together. 1989 there was a brief reunion of Jefferson Airplane.

Marty Balin was then still active solo, but also participated in Kant former Jefferson Starship - The Next Generation.
