Maruyama Gondazaemon

Maruyama Gondazaemon (Japanese丸山 権 太 左卫 门; born December 23, 1713 Tome in Miyagi Prefecture, † November 14, 1749 in Nagasaki Prefecture ) was, according to tradition, the third yokozuna in Japanese sumo wrestling.

Maruyama should not only been an outstanding wrestler, but have also owned one for the circumstances of his time almost monstrous stature: 1.97 cm and 166 kg in weight were for the Edo period almost incredible extent. Accordingly, Maruyama should also have been appointed with 17 years in Edo to ozeki and have achieved the highest rank in sumo.
