Marvin Harris

Marvin Harris ( born August 18, 1927 in Brooklyn, † 25 October 2001 in Gainsville, Florida) was an American anthropologist and the leading exponent of the theory of cultural materialism (English Cultural Materialism ).

He taught and researched for over 30 years at Columbia University in New York and in the 1980s at the University of Florida in Gainesville. His book palatability and aversion is a standard work on the subject of food taboos.
