Mary Carillo

Mary Carillo ( born March 15, 1957 in Queens, New York) is a former American tennis player and current television journalist.

Life

Carillo played from 1977 on the WTA Tour. Her biggest success was the victory in the mixed at the French Open in 1977 at the site of John McEnroe, whom she has known since childhood. As early as 1980 they had to end their active career due to a knee injury.

Immediately following her career end as a tennis player Carillo took a job as a television journalist at first for USA Network ( 1980-87 ) and PBS ( 1981-86 ) and then for CBS (since 1986). From 1996 to 1999, she reported for HBO of the Wimbledon Championships. Since 2003 she has been employed by the NBC and reports of Wimbledon and the French Open. In addition to the coverage of tennis tournaments she has been involved since 1996, regularly broadcasts on Olympic Games.

For her work Carillo was twice awarded the Peabody Award.

Carillo lives in Naples in the state of Florida. In 2004 she had a brief cameo appearance in the film Wimbledon - Game, Set and ... love.
