Mary Prema Pierick

Sister Mary Prema Pierick ( religious name, civil Mechthild Pierick ) ( born May 13, 1953 in Reken ) is Catholic nun and Superior General of the Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta.

Life

Mechthild Pierick met in 1980 at the Berlin Catholic Mother Teresa know. At the age of 27 years she appeared in Essen as a postulant in the Congregation of the Missionaries of Charity and took the religious name Mary Prema. In 1983 she passed the temporary profession. First Sister Prema was active in Rome, Naples and Madrid. During the stay of Mother Teresa at the Vatican, she served as her translator. Mother Teresa called them to Calcutta in the Mother House of the Order; Since 2005, Sister Prema was there at the leadership committee of the Congregation, consisting of four sisters.

The first successor of Mother Teresa as Superior General, Sister Mary Nirmala Joshi, saw off for health reasons by a third term in office. Sr. Prema was elected on 25 March 2009, of the 162 participants in the General Chapter in Calcutta as the second successor of Mother Teresa to the Superior General of the Congregation.
