Marydale

Province

Marydale is a town in the municipality Siyathemba, Pixley Ka Seme District, Northern Cape Province in South Africa. The city was founded in 1902 by the Dutch Reformed Church. It was named after Mary Snyman, the wife of the owner of the farm Kalkput in whose possession was the city. In 2011 Marydale had 2,623 inhabitants.

Economy and Transport

Located northwest of the city there are more underground water reserves, water supply of the region therefore relies mainly on the use of wind-driven pumps. Economically, the city of the sheep farming and the cultivation of cotton is dependent. The mining of asbestos declined significantly in recent years. The town lies on the N10 national road. It crosses here the regional road R383.
