Masahiko Shimada

Masahiko Shimada (Japanese岛 田 雅 彦, Shimada Masahiko, born March 13, 1961 in the prefecture of Tokyo) is a Japanese writer.

Shimada grew up in Kawasaki and studied at the University of Tokyo, Russian and Eastern European languages. His debut novel Yasashii sayoku no tame no kiyūkyoku (優しい サヨク の ため の 嬉 遊曲, " Divertimento for a soft left"; 1983) was nominated for the Akutagawa Prize. For his next novel Muyu Okoku no tame no ongaku (夢 遊王 国 の ため の 音楽, "Music for a sleep- walking Kingdom" ) he received the Noma Literary Prize for debutants in the following year. It was followed by other novels, a collection of short stories under the title of Donna Anna (ドンナ·アンナ) and a socio- pathological study on AIDS (未 确认 尾 行 物体, Mikakunin Biko buttai ).

In the 1990s, he founded and led his own theater group and staged their own piece Ulalium (ユラリウム, Yurariumu ). He also took a role in Ryu Murakami's SM- movie Tokyo decadence and was photographed from the Aktphotographen Nobuyoshi Araki. In 1992 he received the Izumi Kyoka Prize for Literature for - Higan -sensei (彼岸 先生), 2006 the Itō -Sei Prize for Literature for Taihai shimai (退 廃 姊妹). From 2000 to 2003, he was part of the selection committee of the Mishima Prize. Shimada taught since 2003 at Hosei University.
