Mashallah ibn Athari

Māšā'allāh Ibn - Atari ( * before 762; † ca 815) was a Jewish astronomer and astrologer.

Life and work

Māšā'allāh ( the Jewish name was Manasseh ) lived and worked in the realm of the Abbasids in the city of Basra in Iraq today. His exact survival data are not known. He was involved in the astrological investigations concerning the date of the founding of the new imperial capital Baghdad on July 30, 762 In his works, traditional horoscopes dating between 762 and 809 At the time of al- Ma ʾ mun, which was 813 Caliph, he shall by Ibn an still have been alive - Nadim, so one assumes his death at 815.
