Maskavas Forštate

Maskavas forState ( German: Moscow suburb ) is a district of the Latvian capital Riga. He is also called or Maskavas priekšpilsēta colloquially Maskačka.

Located just south of downtown in the district of Latgale priekšpilsēta on the banks of the Daugava. On 749 hectares live 32,157 inhabitants (2008 ). The district takes its name from him traversing former road to Moscow, Maskavas iela and was traditionally inhabited mainly by Russians. During the Second World War, when this was the Riga ghetto.

The Palace of Culture and Science ( Zinātņu akadēmijas augstceltne ), the Riga Central Market, built of wood in neoclassical style Protestant Church of the Jesus ( Jezus Evaņģēliski luteriskā baznīca ) and the ruins of a synagogue located in Maskavas forState.
